As the club grows and we hope to offer rugby for more age ranges in the 2024/25 season, we urgently need more coaches and volunteers! We are particularly in need of the following key roles:

Assistant Coaches Needed

Do you love working with young people and want to help them grow and develop through sports? The Shrewsbury Lions need YOU to be a part of our coaching team!

Position: Assistant Coach
Sport: Junior Rugby League
Location: Shrewsbury
Commitment: Sunday morning training sessions plus festivals (1-2 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Support the lead coaches in organizing and leading practice sessions
  • Foster a positive, fun, and inclusive environment for all players
  • Help teach teamwork, sportsmanship, and the basics of rugby
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of every child

What We’re Looking For:

  • A passion for working with children and helping them develop
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, reliability, and enthusiasm
  • No prior rugby experience necessary—just a willingness to learn and engage with the kids

Lead Coaches Needed

Are you passionate about rugby and inspiring young athletes? The Shrewsbury Lions are looking for dedicated Lead Coaches to guide our junior rugby league teams to success as we grow our age groups offer!

Position: Lead Coach
Sport: Junior Rugby League
Location: Shrewsbury
Commitment: Sunday morning training plus festivals and planning (2-3 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Head Coach to lead the coordination for one of our age group teams
  • Plan and lead engaging and effective practice sessions
  • Teach rugby skills, strategies, and sportsmanship
  • Motivate and mentor young players, fostering their growth and development
  • Ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Collaborate with assistant coaches and communicate with parents
  • Support the coaching and volunteer teams to deliver our annual home festival and coordinate matches with other teams

What We’re Looking For:

  • Knowledge of rugby and/or coaching experience
  • A passion for working with children and helping them reach their potential
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Enthusiasm, patience, and a positive attitude
  • Commitment to the values and goals of the Shrewsbury Lions
